Success with Natural Remedies

The term natural remedies has become popular in the world we live in today. Some people prefer natural remedies to traditional western medicine while others think natural remedies are the only way to go. Other groups of people think anything centered around natural remedies is quackery and others still have come to appreciate a mix of different types of healing. I have come to dispel the confusion around this issue. Get ready to hear the truth.

For many years, on my own, I have been a seeker of ways to help my self and take responsibility for my own health. Sometimes with radical disregard and distrust of our own medical system. I have come to appreciate the need for modern medical doctors, and feel confident in saying, I think it's a good idea to be able to see this issue from many different angles. In the cases of physical trauma or surgery, I trust the doctors for their expertise 100 %. Even the drugs used in such cases are, for the most part, absolutely necessary and even life saving. I also appreciate the opinions of open minded medical doctors, to aid us with a more complete understanding, so we can gain clarity in making choices about our health. Next is a personal story to help you in your own quest.

My Wife and I were in Hungary this summer with our little boy, who was about 9 months old at the time. He has been perfectly healthy, thank God, for all of his life, with the exception of a severe case of Eczema, with some complications resulting. The most concerning of these turned out to be a case of ringworm (or tinea corporis.) We read on the internet to see if there was any way we could treat it naturally. We found a couple of ideas that some people claimed they had success with, however we were still skeptical, because of the severity of the infection, which had started in the places where the eczema was worst, and was rapidly spreading all over his body. We decided we had to visit the Doctor, despite our skepticism of this approach.

The Dermatologist came highly recommended by my Wife's mom, who said she was one of the leading dermatologists in all of Hungary, and was also a friend of the family. We visited her and she confirmed it was ringworm and that she had the cure. We asked if there were any natural remedies, to which we received the response there were not. We were given a prescription for two creams, which we were told were safe and would eliminate the ringworm. She also told us that if we didn't use it the ringworm would only get worse, with more complications, and never go away. We walked away feeling a little disappointed and reluctantly went to the pharmacy, thinking we should get the prescription even though we were still unsure if we would use it.

At the pharmacy we paid for the creams. One of them was a steroid creme with a fungicide and the other some general moisture creme, which we were told was to be used after every bath. We were also told that this creme was perfectly safe and was routinely prescribed for all new born babies in Hungary. After reading the ingredients on this creme we immediately decided it was not going on our baby. We were still at the pharmacy and tried to return it and they would not refund us for it. We let them know they should give it to some one who wanted it and they declined to this as well. We left it on the counter and instructed them to please throw it in the trash for us, at which point we left without a refund. We still had the steroid fungicide creme, just in case.

We went to the health store and purchased some good colloidal silver, which we had read about and had hopes in, as an alternative to the creme. It took a lot of faith, but we decided to use it with some organic shea butter instead of the creme, thinking that if no improvement came in a short time we would resort to the doctor's creme. We were challenged by my wife's family, as they were skeptical of our methods, which made us all the more unsure of ourselves. We knew that we had practiced a lot of things that were not excepted by mainstream culture and believed those things were at least partly responsible for our own good health. We decided if we didn't trust ourselves this time it might create doubt about all of the things we were practicing for our health. You can probably see this was no small test of faith.

We applied the silver with the shea butter several times a day and also gave silver internally to our baby. We found a very high quality ionic silver with the smallest particle size that you can get a mineral into. This is important if for anyone thinking about using this method themselves. Within a few days we noticed some good changes. After a week we went back to the doctor at which point she told us the creme was working beautifully and to keep it up. At the request of my wife's mother we did not tell the doctor that we were not using the creme. To sum things up, the silver worked and the ringworm completely disappeared along with the eczema. Our baby is now 16 months old and has perfectly healthy skin. We never used the creme.

As with anything one does in their life I believe it is important that you educate yourself and take responsibility for your decisions. Don't trust me alone. Check with your doctor, and read and learn about these important subjects. I am not a doctor and respect the choices of others who might choose differently than I have. I am thankful however, that after seeing both sides of this issue that we trusted in ourselves, and the faith this has given us is beyond explanation. May you also have success and health in your journeys.

Shopping 101

Today I'm letting you in on one of my most valuable secrets. Valuable, as it may be, it is one of the simplest things anyone can do to help themselves, their loved ones and the planet. What is this simple secret? Well, of course it's reading ingredient lists of every single thing that you buy. I am certainly qualified to inform you of the importance, as I have practiced this discipline rigidly, and with great enjoyment, for most of my life.

One of the greatest riches in life is health. What we eat, drink, inhale or put on our bodies has a direct relationship to our health. Once you learn to read ingredients lists and nutrition facts you'll begin to gain great insight on many levels. Your eyes will be opened to the many unnecessary and sometimes outright dangerous things we put into our bodies on a daily basis. You will begin to understand the difference between quality products and companies and those out for the sole purpose of taking your money. You'll begin to see the differences in kinds of fats, and ratios of carbohydrates to proteins and fats. You will increase your overall understanding and awareness of health and the environment. Once you start on this journey you'll be compelled to find out what all of those things that you don't recognize on the lists are. Once you open that door your life will begin to take on new meaning.

It would be great if reading the ingredients were enough, however you'll need to go at least a step further to get the most out of this information. The greatest advice I can give you on what to do with this valuable information is to start buying the products that have only whole food ingredients in the foods you buy, with marginal exception, and the cleanest, most pure and environmentally friendly ingredients in the products that go on to your body, or get used by you for any other purpose.

Whole foods have the highest value for all of your nutritional requirements. Refining and processing can reduce nutritional values as well as change the way your body responds to the foods. A good example is refined sugar versus sucanat. Sucanat is dehydrated cane juice, which is minimally processed. It contains nutrients like phosphorus, iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium. Refined white sugar contains none of these and may contain chemicals like phosphoric acid, sulfer dioxide, and formic acid. White sugar is also more taxing on your adrenals and pancreas.

If you decide to buy pomegranate juice, look for the kind that has on it's ingredient list, organic pomegranate juice. You'll see there are many that appear to be just pomegranate juice, however after reading the label you find out the first ingredient is apple juice, the second grape juice, and so on. The amounts of the ingredients are always listed from the first being the most to the last being the least. These are just a couple of examples. We could go on and on, but we won't. So, what do you do?

Pay attention to what's in your food and eliminate all of those unnecessary ingredients. Buy organic whenever you can. Use mostly whole foods, consisting of vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. Buy the household cosmetic, and hygiene products that are non toxic. Spread the word!

Magnesium

Magnesium may be the most important element for life on earth. Without magnesium there would be no plant life, because photosynthesis requires it. Magnesium is at the center of the chlorophyll molecule, which happens to be identical to hemoglobin, with the exception, that hemoglobin has iron at its center. It has been speculated that chlorophyll becomes hemoglobin when ingested into the body with the exchange of magnesium for iron at the center.

Magnesium is responsible for over 300 enzyme ion actions in the body. Without it our hearts could not beat. It is one of the most integral components of bones tissues and cells. It is necessary for the manufacturing of insulin and insulin helps get magnesium into our cells. Magnesium helps our cells to be more sensitive to insulin, which in turn lowers insulin resistance. This symbiotic relationship shows us a direct connection between diabetes and magnesium deficiency.

Magnesium is needed in synthesizing cholesterol, which is part of many other hormones. Cell division requires magnesium as well. The removal of toxins and acid residues from cells depends on magnesium, which keeps us from rapidly aging.

Dr. Mark A. Sircus Ac., OMD states that for cardiac arrest stroke or panic attack magnesium chloride should be the very first thing administered. On the website, magnesiumforlife.com he also states that, transdermally applied, it has health benefits unequalled in the entire world of medicine, and for people who are deficient it’s benefits are nothing short of a miracle.

Magnesium defends cells against mercury as well as cadmium, aluminum, beryllium and lead. In medical science it has shown to be helpful in almost all disorders including cancer. One study showed higher magnesium intake associated with a lower risk of colon cancer. It has also been found at a specialized cancer center that 46% of the patients admitted had abnormally low levels of serum magnesium. You can read in depth about these subjects in Dr. Mark A Sircus’s article, Magnesium and Cancer.

Some of the benefits of using magnesium chloride internally or through the skin are the strengthening of teeth, gums, bones and all of your tissues, helping you to relax, better bone mineralization and improved muscle contraction and relaxation. It is necessary for the utilization of calcium and increases the bioavailability of other nutrients from foods. Magnesium forms hard tooth enamel with more resistance to decay. The average person has 1% magnesium phosphate in their teeth. Elephant’s tusks have about 2%, which billiard balls are made from, and carnivorous animals teeth are made up of about 5%, accounting for their ability to crush bones with them. In a very pure form magnesium chloride can be used as a mouth rinse and then swallowed.

Sings of Magnesium deficiency include but are not limited to Diabetes, Hypoglycemia, nervousness, hyperactivity, muscle weakness, muscle cramps and spasms, back pain, migraines, kidney stones, and Attention Deficit Disorder.

Some foods you can get more magnesium from are kelp, raw almonds, whole grain cereals, sesame seeds, chlorella, green peas, broccoli, pumpkin seeds, brazil nuts, quinoa, spinach, cashews, soy beans, pine nuts, white beans, black beans, beet greens, avocados, bananas, black berries, kiwis and watermelon. Organic Cacao Powder is also very high in Magnesium, but it's also very addicting so consume it at your own risk. There are other sources as well.

Magnesium chloride is the very best form of magnesium to take as a supplement. Just Organics has one of the best forms for internal use in its purest form. The one we carry is manufactured by Eidon Ionic Minerals and will be made available at a discount through Just Organics. For transdermal use we are going to be carrying another product that you can apply directly to your skin or use in a bath. I haven’t tried this yet, however I’ve heard it can eliminate stress and make aches and pains go away. Sounds good to me.

You should not use magnesium supplements if your heart rate is extremely low or if you have kidney failure.

Most of the information in this article was referenced from articles written by Mark A Sircus, Ac., and OMD. These articles include magnesium: the lamp of life and magnesium and cancer.

Goji Berries

Goji Berries are one of the most amazing foods on the planet. In Chinese medicine they are revered as one of the most important food herbs. Some of their traditional uses were for eye, liver, and kidney support, to strengthen the immune system, to help restore energy and stamina, and treating insomnia.

Goji berries contain 21 trace minerals including calcium, zinc, iron, copper, germanium, selenium, and phosphorus. They are the richest source of caretenoids, including beta-carotene, of any plant on earth. They are second only to the camu camu berry in vitamin C, containing 500 times more than oranges by weight.

Goji berries also contain polysaccharides, which stimulate the body to produce inerleuken-2 and interferon, which are connected to anti-inflammation and immune responses. The berries are also the only known food to help the body produce more HGH naturally. Decreasing levels of HGH in the body are associated with aging.

Last but certainly not least Goji Berries taste good. Some say the taste is between a cranberry and a cherry.

The What, How and Why of Exercise

This post is an expansion on exercise and eating, to give some more details and specifics to help you get started. The What is referred to by a number of different names, including HIT(high intensity training), HIIT(high intensity interval training), interval sessions, anaerobic sprint workouts and whatever you come up with to describe this type of exercise. In short, it is the type of exercise that gets you out of breath in a relatively short period of time. You can run, ride your bike, swim, do aerobics at super speed, making them anaerobic, or even break dance. If it takes you less than 30 seconds to get out of breath doing the exercise it would fall into the category I am referring to. This brings us right into the how.

Ease into this type of exercise if you're new to it. As it is beneficial, it takes some training to develop your fast twitch muscle fibers. About 8 weeks to get them up to full speed. I recommend for example if you are running, start off at a slow pace and within 5 to 10 seconds work up to a speed that is fast, keeping your awareness of your body in mind, as to what feels fairly natural but still intense. This easing into the exercise could be viewed, in a sense, of how children play. Running as fast as you can through the grass, and feeling the sensation of the wind through your hair, as you exert your power and determination. Just keep it simple and enjoy the feeling. As your muscles develop you'll find it easier and then you can push yourself a little more. Give yourself a little rest while still moving and then do it again. Repeat it 3 to four times and then do some stretches for maximal benefit and injury prevention. It is also good to start with a few stretches before doing the exercise. 3 days a week is all you need to experience great results. It is also recommended to change the specific type of exercise every 4 weeks. I like to mix it up myself, depending on what is more convenient. At this point you may find yourself asking, "Why this type of exercise?"

Some of the benefits include improved bone density and joint integrity, increased muscle size and strength, better heart and lung function, and increased metabolism. Even in Cardiac and Pulmonary patients HIT improved the cardiovascular fitness and health of those who were already very functional individuals. It has been found that these short burst exercises were even more effective at preventing heart disease than longer exercises. Long distance running and other extended type exercises cause the heart, lungs, and muscles to decrease in size in order to go longer. Your body can be conditioned to go longer at the cost of losing its ability to quickly provide large short bursts of energy. These large short bursts of energy, on the contrary, tell the body to increase the size of heart, lungs, and muscles to cope with the bursts, resulting in better overall health and less wear and tear on joints. HGH levels also rise in people doing intense exercises. The increase was up to 450% greater, in the people studied, who did 30 second intervals compared to those who did 6 seconds of intense exercise. HGH makes kids grow taller and helps to keep adults fit and healthy on other levels, which could be the subject of another post. Be careful and take it easy. For now here's something to think on.

Dara Torres was a competitor in the 2008 Olmypic Games. At 41 years of age she beat her own record from about 20 years prior. She also won the silver medal in this event, coming in 1/100th of a second behind the gold medalist, a sixteen year old. Do you think she knows anything about Intensity Training? Put your mind on the limitless and see what you can achieve.

Exercise and Eating

Here is some real information for you. Some things I am qualified to talk about through practical experience. My favorite exercise for the sake of best results in gains is sprinting. This might sound a little scary at first, but once you've gotten into them you'll see the benefits, and love the results. I do sprints or some kind of other real quick exercise, that is not specifically running, three times a week. If you are running sprints be sure to get your blood flowing a little before jumping right into them. A couple of stretches can help a little as well. Try 3 to 4, at as fast as you can tolerate, with just enough time in between to almost catch your breath. This is good for your heart, lungs and helping you to stop doing things that are bad for your health. Super speed exercises also create more HGH in your body. HGH is human growth hormone, and it keeps us younger and helps us to recover faster. I will go into more detail about this in another blog, but now I just want to get some practical information out there for you. Long distance running is very good as well, however, I have to say from experience that I believe sprints do more for you. They will make you stronger. They will help you to gain muscle mass and strength that you didn't know you were capable of, and jump start your energy in such a way, that you may not need a cup of coffee to get your day started. Some times I am vibrating with a good sort of energy several hours after I do this type of exercise. Like I said before, I am going to back this up with some good follow up information so you can go and verify this in writing from other peoples experience as well. For now let's get into the eating side of this.

For recovery I like to eat a huge banana and green leafy vegetable smoothie with Chlorella in it. Chorella is an amazing food and contains CGF(Chorella Growth Factor), which helps you to recover faster. It is also loaded with vitamins and minerals. It can increase the lactobacillus in your gut up to 4 times. This is very good, considering lactobacillus is a probiotic, which helps your body to digest food and utilize nutrients more efficiently. Try 5 bananas, 1/4 to 1/2 pound of greens, chorella and a little filtered water blended together for a breakfast or lunch that won't leave you wanting for more. Once you go there you won't go back. This is a good start for anyone in exercise and eating. I'll give you some more good stuff another time. One more thing. If you are new to the green foods and fresh fruit, don't get discouraged if it's a little strange in anyway at first. Our bodies crave what we put into them, and your body will crave foods like this if you get in the habit. Then, other foods that are not as good will seem strange to put in your body.

Opportunities in Green Living

We truly live in a time of great opportunity. With all of the bailouts in the United States and around the world it might seem like times are pretty grim. It is in times like these, however, that people become open to trying new things. This is one of those times. I am going to be doing a lot of different types of things in this this time to help myself and others. I will be doing product reviews and sharing the products I use and like. The number one thing for me, when it comes to products and life in general is quality. In my years of searching, I have run my own organic business and worked at a few health food stores. I have also been a living experiment with exercise and diet. I always read all of the ingredients of every product I buy, and recommend that you do the same. It is of the utmost importance, and you may be surprised when you start checking labels.

In this time there will be a new world order. The order I speak of will be an order which comes about as a result of the actions taken by the people towards something better than what we have been seeking. This new order has the potential to override that of our governments themselves. It may even be a silent revolution. I will use the subject of plants for the sake of example, and because they are one of my favorite topics. Plants, as most of us have learned, have values as food and as medicine. We can start by taking the control of plants back from the powers that would suppress information about them in order to keep you dependent on the current health paradigm. We do not need doctors or pharmaceutical companies to tell us what is good for us any longer. The information is here now and easily obtainable. It is time for us to take back the control of our health and lives. We can do it. Let's start now. You can expect more information on this subject soon.

Learning as we go

I was listening to a show called, "The Renegade Health Show," by Kevin Gianni the other day, and thought I would share this message. He spoke about the book, "Fit for Life," and how the author doesn't believe what he wrote anymore. This book is one of the number one selling diet and health books of all time. People are still following this book. I have corresponded with another author who relayed to me that he has changed some of the things he once felt strongly about as well. What's the message here? Sometimes we think we have got it figured out, and then life humbles us and tells us otherwise. I guess we just keep learning and sharing our experience, and in the process we do get some understanding and insight. For me it also shows how good it is to keep learning instead of getting caught up in one persons understanding. I am thankful for the people who wrote these books, in sincerity, and have gained a lot of good knowledge from them, in spite of the fact that not everything in them works for everyone all of the time. Let's keep learning and sharing.

Where does one start on this path? We should keep it simple. For one person, it might be enough to visit a health food store for the first time. For another person it might be the commitment to buy all organic or better than organic food. It is not important to do it all right now. I have been at this for a long time and I still haven't managed to do it all. Each step taken reveals the next step or steps. There is no need for perfection here. Just go in the right direction and knowledge and experience will be gained. On this blog I intend to show practical application of what I have learned, and share as my knowledge and experience grow. This truly is the time for great change. The whole world is hungry for this information. Let's get on the train and see how far we can go.

Now is the time to go where you believe to go.  To greener places for eternity.  We have more power than we may have thought.  One way to use that power is by voting with your dollar.  Buy from the people and companies you feel are on that path to the place you want to go, or even better, start your own company and buy from yourself.  Now is the time.
